What's Important in Trials
Passage: James 1:9–1:12
At first glance of these verses, it may seem like James is changing the subject. However, James is still discussing the topic of trials. Trials come in various kinds as mentioned in verse 2. One of the kinds of trials is financial, both in not having enough and having plenty.
1A. THE PEOPLE OF FAITH (1:9-10)
1B. The lowly brother
2B. The rich brother
2A. THE PRINCIPLE OF FAITH (1:9-11)
1B. The lowly poor (Jeremiah 9:24; 1 Corinthians 1:26-31; Isaiah 2:11,17, 5:15; Luke 14:11; James 4:10; Psalm 40:1-3; Ephesians 1:7,18, 2:7, 3:8,16)
2B. The lowly rich (Matthew 6:19-21; James 4:13-15)
3A. THE PRACTICE OF FAITH (1:12)
1B. Seen in our giving
1C. The poor giver (1 Corinthians 8:1-5)
2C. The rich giver (1 Timothy 6:17-19)
2B. Seen in our living, verse 12.
Money is one of the forms in which trials enter our lives. The Bible challenges our perception about money. Financial trials are tests that reveal and refine. Reveals our hearts and refines our faith. The real test is whether our trust and dependence is on money or on our Lord.
