What to Remember in Trials

March 4, 2018 Pastor: Verne Nakasone Series: James

Passage: James 1:17–1:18

OVERVIEW:

The context of this passage is trials. We have learned ..

  • What we know in trials is that the testing of our faith produces patience
  • We are confident that God is at work in our trials
  • We understand what we need in our trials is wisdom
  • We recognize what is important in our trials is faith
  • We realize what we are not to do in our trials. We are not to sin

This morning, our focus will be on what we are to remember in our trials.

NOTES:

1A. THE GOODNESS AND GENEROSITY OF GOD DISPLAYED IN HIS CREATIVE WORK (1:17)
1B. The quality of the gifts: The Father only gives good and perfect gifts
2B. The quality of the Giver
1C. Illumination: He is the Father of lights
2C. Immutability: He is the Father in Whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
2A. THE GOODNESS AND GENEROSITY OF GOD DISPLAYED IN HIS REDEMPTIVE WORK (1:18)
1B. The display-”of His of will He brought us forth”
2B. The means-”by the word of truth”
3B. The results-”that we might be a kind of first fruits of His creatures”

These gifts are coming down from, portraying the Father as the source. These gifts are coming down, that is, from God to the believer. This phrase is in the present tense, meaning that it is continual and constant.

In order to endure trials, you must be convinced of His goodness and generosity or you may make the mistake of blaming Him.
Instead of being preoccupied with our trials, may we perceive the goodness and gener-osity of God coming down to us each and every day.
