The Test of Faith - Wisdom From Above, Part 3
Passage: James 3:17–3:18
What is essential in order for you and me to live out the truth discussed in James 1, 2 and 3? The answer is the wisdom of God.
1A. THE CRITICAL QUESTION (3:13a) James identifies that there is only two kinds of wisdom: Earthly wisdom or the wisdom that is from above.
2A. THE CONSTRUCTIVE ANSWER (3:13b-18)
1B. Conduct (v.13a) - Wisdom is proven by how you live.
2B. Conflict (vv.13b-16) - We can either seek to resolve conflict on our own by earth-ly wisdom or we can surrender to God and apply the wisdom that is from above.
3B. Character, verses 17-18.
1C. THE PLACE WHERE THIS WISDOM COMES FROM (v.17a)
The more we line up our lives underneath what James is teaching about God’s wisdom, the deeper and more stable your Christian life will be and the more joy and peace you will experience.
2C. THE PRIORITY OF THIS WISDOM (v.17a)
Embrace that which consistent with Who God is and let go of that which is inconsistent with Who God is.
3C. THE PATTERNS OF THIS WISDOM (v.17b)
3D. “willing to yield”
4D. “full of mercy and good fruits”
5D. “without partiality”
6D. “without hypocrisy”
4C. THE PRODUCT OF THIS WISDOM (v.18)
What fruit does righteousness produce, or right attitudes and actions produce? The answer is emphasized the repetition of the word peace.
In our dealing with people in our lives, the tendency of our hearts is to view that life is about me or earthly wisdom. The outcomes of earthly wisdom is seen in verse 16 and the reason is found in verse 15. Here’s the truth.
Life is not about you or me. Life is about God and His renown. Since God know and loves me, I will follow Him and do what He says (Psalm 37:5).
