Humbly Speak Truth
Passage: James 5:12
The pressures and demands of life put plenty of pressure on the Christian. This is why it’s vital that you be intentional and deliberate about pursuing Christ. Philippians 3:7-12 provides 4 reasons why you ought to pursue Christ.
- Humbly pursuing Christ is how you get to know God (3:7-8a)
- Humbly pursuing Christ confirms your justification (3:8b-9)
- You humbly pursue Christ because of your imperfection (3:12a)
- You humbly pursue Christ because He has made you His own (3:12b)
1A. PURSUE PATIENCE (5:7-11)
1B. Patience involves waiting
2B. Patience involves lacking
3B. Patience involves suffering
4B. Patience involves enduring
5B. Patience involves trusting
6b. Patience involves blessing
2A. PURSUE HONESTY (5:12)
1B. The importance of pursuing honesty—“But above all”
2B. The imperative to pursue honesty – “Do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath”
3B. The instruction to pursue honesty—“But let your ‘Yes,’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ be ‘No,’”
James discussed “the perfect law of liberty” (1:25). The law is now perfect (whole and complete) with both the Old and New Testaments. When combined, the result is de-scribed as liberty.
The Christian is now is free to say, “Yes” to their brothers and sister in Christ as often as we can and say, “No’ as a genuine and honest response. We are free to love and serve one another.
