Because our lives are filled with various trials (1:2), this verse teaches about the value of communion with Christ by praying and praising. Regardless of what is going in life, commune with God.

If you’re suffering, if you’re happy, if you’re sick …. commune with God! This is James’ appeal: Commune with the living God in prayer and praise.
